The Research Profiles and Repository hosts the research outputs of Western Sydney University, serving as a vital platform to promote and increase the visibility of the university's research. The Library automatically collects research outputs on behalf of Western Sydney University researchers and enriches the records for enhanced visibility. However, there may be times when you need to manually add publications or add a dataset.
The records are discoverable through the Research Profiles and Repository, and are also harvested by Altmetric, DataCites, Google Google Scholar and Trove, increasing their global visibility.
Research Outputs
Your research outputs are used across the University for various purposes, including:
- Internal reporting for promotion, academic workload and your Research Activity Statements
- Displayed on your Research Profile
- Inclusion in any future Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) submissions
Refer to the guidelines regarding the inclusion and descriptions of what research outputs are included the Research Profiles and Repository.
Publications are included in Research Profiles and Repository according to the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) Submission Guidelines. We continue to use the 2023 ERA Submission Guidelines to assess the quality of Western Sydney University research while we await the future direction of ERA.
To qualify for ERA reporting, research outputs must align with the Australian Research Council’s definition of research, as outlined in the Submission Guidelines. These guidelines also categorise research publications into the following types:
- Books - authored research
- Chapters in research books
- Journal articles - refereed, scholarly journals as per the ERA Journal List
- Conference publications - full paper refereed
- Non-traditional research outputs (NTRO), such as creative works and research reports.
Online access to the full text of the output will be made available where possible, in accordance with publisher embargo policies. Full text access may include:
- An openly accessible PDF version – either a licenced Version of Record or allowed Author’s Accepted Manuscript (Post Print);
- A link to the material if freely available online without a licence;
- Green Open Access, when an approved version of a publication is made open access in an institutional repository.;
- A link to a landing page where a download of a research dataset is available.
- You can find items only in print with the Library search box.
Research Datasets
The Open Access to Research policy is committed to making the products of research openly available for re-use and citation wherever possible.
Datasets associated with completed research projects are described and retained by the Library in the Research Data Australia portal. This increased exposure to Western Sydney University's research output may enable new collaborations and research opportunities.
All finalised datasets are archived with a stable URL or DOI(digital object identifier) for citation purposes. These research outputs can also be made discoverable via your ORCID research profile.
A descriptive record will be retained in the Library's repository for long-term access and archiving. The Library works with ITDS to create secure long-term storage for archived datasets, taking into consideration privacy and access conditions associated with the data
