Open scholarship and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) scholarly practices underpin the integrity of research.
OPEN RESEARCH
Open research extends the principles of open access publishing to the whole research cycle, inclusive of research protocols, data, code or software
It encompasses all disciplines and types of research. Through planning many elements of the research lifecycle can be made open, transparent, and reproducible.
OPEN ACCESS
Open access (OA) is a set of principles and a range of practices through which research outputs are distributed online, free of cost or other access barriers through licensing via an open license which is often referred to as (Creative Common License).

OPEN ACCESS TYPES
The different types of open access are distinguished by different colours and indicates the types of open access available:
- Gold Open Access: Publish in a fully Open Access journal.
- Hybrid Open Access: This fee is payable by the author/s (WSU's eligibility guidelines for OA funding do not allow for publishing in hybrid journals).
- Green Open Access: Publish in a subscription-based journal with the full-text deposited into a trusted repository, i.e.: a publicly accessible database managed by a research institution (such as WSU's ResearchDirect)
- Diamond Open Access: Diamond open access refers to open access journals that are free for readers to access and for authors to publish in.
- Bronze Open Access: refers to a freely available journal article that has no open license
