From 2014 the Australian Research Council (ARC) requires applicants for most schemes to outline a plan for the storage, access and re-use arrangements for any data produced by a funded project. A webinar co-hosted by the ARC and the Australian National Data Service (ANDS) discussing the new requirement is available here.
Key points from the webinar:
- Open data is not mandated however, if data can’t be shared an explanation is required;
- Statements should be discipline specific;
- Reviewers will receive instructions on how to assess the new data requirements;
- Final report must describe how the data management plan was actioned.
ANDS has developed a short guide to producing effective data management statements for ARC applications. Western Sydney University specific assistance is available by contacting the Research Engagement Coordinator, Outreach or eResearch.
