Campus libraries reopening Monday 25th October

We are pleased to announce that all campus libraries will have a phased reopening from 25th October in response to the end of the Greater Sydney lockdown. The Library will operate under the current NSW restrictions and health advice.

In alignment with the University’s return to campus plan, the Library will focus on delivering key essential services at this time. Please see below for further details about visiting the Library and available services.

OPENING HOURS for a phased return to campus

The Library has listened to your feedback about preferred times to access the Library during the changing NSW restrictions this year, and has adjusted the return to campus opening hours in response to this.

From 25th October to 14th November:

Monday to Friday: All campus libraries open 12noon to 5:00pm.
Saturday to Sunday: Opening hours vary per campus. Check your campus opening hours webpage for weekend opening hours.

Library opening hours are subject to change at short notice, please check the relevant campus library opening hours webpage before coming onto campus.


Physical access into the Library is restricted to Western Sydney University and The College students, staff and Alumni who carry a valid Western ID card or who have proof of current WSU GradLife registration.

  • Check in via QR code is a mandatory requirement of entry. If you cannot use the QR code, check in on paper at Campus Safety and Security is required.
  • Bring your current Western ID card to tap/swipe into the building.
  • Mask wearing is compulsory in all campus libraries.
  • A Security Guard will be checking for compliance before entering the building, with regular checks by Covid Marshalls or Guards throughout opening hours.
  • At Nirimba, Library access includes Nirimba TAFE staff and students, with current ID (or proof of current WSU GradLife registration) required to be shown at the door, as well as QR code check in and compulsory mask wearing.


  • Mask wearing is compulsory in all campus libraries.
  • Maintain the recommended physical distancing rule displayed in the library.
  • Do not exceed the capacity signage displayed for student group study rooms.


Need assistance on campus? The Library Digital Service Desk is in operation during opening hours. Simply say ‘hello’ at the service desk and a Library staff member will appear on screen to talk to you.


Online Librarian live chat and email services continue to be available extended hours:

Monday to Friday: 8:00am to 6:00pm.
Saturday to Sunday: 12noon to 4:00pm.

Access to our extensive online collections remains available to current students and staff for study and research purposes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.


  • Maintain good hand hygiene by using the hand sanitiser stations in our libraries.
  • Wipe down public use equipment such as keyboards with the supplied wipes, before and after use.
  • Libraries are cleaned regularly under the University’s COVID safe guidelines.


Use the self-service machines to borrow, renew or return your items.


From Wednesday 20th October you will be able to request physical items via the Library search box for pick up. This is in preparation for the reopening of our libraries on Monday 25th October. When your item is available for pick up an automated notice will be sent to your Western email address, however the earliest pick up date will be from 25th October if the item is available. Please note, delays are expected and unavoidable during the reopening period.


For Western students, bookings are now open for Library student group study rooms with reduced numbers to comply with health orders. The earliest date you can book for is Monday 25th October. Capacity numbers are noted for each individual group study room when making a booking; your compliance is expected as part of the booking process and attendance on the booking date.
