The Statutory Licence for Works and Broadcasts
COPYRIGHT ACT 1968 - Section 113P Copying and communicating works and broadcasts allows universities to copy and communicate works and broadcasts for educational and teaching purposes without seeking direct permission, provided that:
- The university pays an agreed remuneration negotiated by Universities Australia and the Copyright Agency for works and to Screenrights for broadcasts.
- Proper attribution is maintained.
- The material is shared only with enrolled students who need it for their subjects.
- The copied and communicated material does not unreasonably prejudice the legitimate interests of the copyright owner.
- The copying or communicating complies with any relevant agreement between the collecting society, Copyright Agency, Screenrights, and Universities Australia, representing Australian universities, or:
- The copying and communication meet the requirements outlined in a determination made by the Copyright Tribunal.
Section 113P Copyright Notice:
The copying and communication of works and broadcasts for educational and teaching purposes of the University requires the placement of the Section 113P Copyright Notice in front of all copied and communicated third-party copyright materials.

Music Licence for Universities
The UNIVERSITIES MUSIC LICENCE was negotiated between the Australasian Performing Right Association, the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia, the Australian Recording Industry Association, and Universities Australia on behalf of the Universities Mentioned in Schedule A of the Remuneration Agreement, including Western Sydney University.
