Social Networking Sites
Researchers interested in utilising social media to disseminate information about their research and build a personal brand have many options. Key sites are:
- Academia.edu – ‘Follow’ researchers or research topics to receive notification of new material. Link (recommended) to authorised PDF's of work in the ResearchDirect (Research Repository), or upload an authorised open access PDF to the site.
- ResearchGate ‘Follow’ researchers or research topics to receive notification of new material. Automatically alerts when an authorised PDF of research may be uploaded to the site.
- Mendeley Combined reference manager and networking tool. ‘Follow’ researchers, research groups or research topics and ‘share’ authorised open versions of papers with others. Mendeley ‘shares’ are used to calculate impact on some sites.
- Google Scholar profiles – Group publications and create alerts to follow researchers or research topics. Provides citations counts and other measures of research impact.
